You know, those people that write in with 'suspect' names. Well one today has kept me chuckling all day long...

And Evans is getting the slot.

And our workshop radio will be getting retuned.

With you on that one but retuned to what?

I have about three commercial local stations that play OK pop music but the presenters are brainless (one today was talking about his friends "rock-wiler" dog) and every 20 minutes we get blasted with the same annoying adverts.

Classical music is a bore. Radio 4 talks endlessly about things that will be of no interest in a weeks time and Radio 1 plays strange noise that passes for music and is presented by more brainless chattering children who have removed "th" from the language.

My only decent choice (Radio 2) which for all its faults is fairly easy on the ear and was presented with some style in the past is being taken over by morons. Evans is a fool who sits there dinging a silly bell for three hours and talking crap. Cant stand it on the way home, will stand it less in the morning. He is replaced by Simon Mayo - equally annoying in his own way. So bye bye Radio 2. It is a shame because the station full of great presenters but just broadcasting when no one is listening.

I have a DAB radio at home but not in the car. Even on Digital I cannot find any reasonable stations. I am in Hampshire not the ends of the earth.

Is it just me or is the Radio provision crap? Is it too much to ask to just have someone who has a brain in their head to ease me into the day with a little music and amusing conversation.

You could always just try listening to Evans on his new morning slot, you might actually like it. If you do, then carry on listening, if you don't then retune.
This reminds me of when J.Walker left the drivetime show, he has incredibly loyal listeners as can be evidenced by the people who used to call him up. The conversation in our local pub had already made it clear that Evans wasn't welcome on Drivetime without even listening. Several years later, and Evans has made the show his own with lots of happy listeners.
But R2 listeners do have a certain reputation of fearing change

If you like Wogans silly names get your loved one to buy you 'Potty, Fartwell & Nob' book for Xmas.

It's full of real ones!

E.g. Norman Conquest
Jeanie Talia
Seymour Pussy

All taken from onld census returnes etc

It's one of my 'toilet books' easy to dip into for a few minutes while having a poo and saves taking the newspaper in (fro reading, not wiping btw!)

It had me belly laughing out loud for some of them!

I quite liked Evans on TV but I dont think he ever worked well on Radio. I did listen to him for some time when he started on the evening show. But his annoying ways just took over.
He has a silly chirpy put-on tone that is too much at 5pm so will be hell at 7am. He just talks crap and dings a silly bell.
I cannot imagine what he can do to stop being so annoying apart from keeping silent but that probably is a bit of a non-starter for a radio show.
He will find an audience as he did with the evening show but it will not cater for the traditional Radio 2 audience who will be left without an easy on the ear, funny and reasonably intelligent station.
I have given Evans a fair chance on radio twice before but so far he still proves himself to be a twat.

I totally agree. His shows are all about 'me,me,me' and what he's up to etc take recently he gets on Who wants to be a millionaire and hasn't shut up about it since!

Ironically Wogan is the opposite, quite good on radio but annoys the hell out of me on TV (Ross is similar)

Talking about daft names, I know of a shop in Harrogate that was called Godfrey and Twat but two weeks ago when I was there and wanted to point this out to a colleague, I was disappointed to note the name had changed to Godfrey and Watt. Shame!

Well, I like his (Evans) radio show and it will be missed, I'm not sure if Mayo can fill his boots, talking of which, can anyone fill the much loved Wogans!
