I had one of them a couple of days ago whilst I was waiting at some lights. The semblance of intelligence is lost as soon as they do it

ahem...

First part, she's got a car right on her rear wheel, noticed it was clear when passing the van and just went.

She jumps the light, but looks very carefully whilst doing so. I'll jump some lights if I feel safer doing so than stopping.

oh come on, the car behind was miles off as she pulled out the junction, she didnt even look left when she pulled out, just went on a prayer. I guess she didnt wear a helmet as it may mess up her hair too. If she is going to cycle like that i would suggest wearing one.

Except that it's not safer to do so, only more convenient and selfish.

Oh, so it's not safer to jump a ped crossing light when there's no one crossing? (for whatever reason)

I can think of lots of situations where stopping for lights is less safe than stopping, such as when you know the lights are going to cycle in your favour soon, and a driver is revving their engine.

Or when the lighting sequence leaves a clear gap in traffic flow in the direction you want to go in on the red, but would otherwise mean negotiating many different cars and lanes, ect.

Nope, you're still better off waiting. That's because it's better to have the impatient idiot passing you at low speed rather than at high speed further down the road. If you're really worried, throw a professional wobble, and if you're more worried than that, pull over and let them pass. I've done that before with an impatient and poor HGV driver.

Here I just see impatience and selfishness. You might have to be a little more active in negotiation and signalling, but it's not exactly hard to do.

The only time I've seen that it's sometimes safer to go through is when you're approaching the lights, they change to amber, and you think the driver behind you won't stop. This is accounted for in the highway code though, you're allowed to proceed if you need to.

I do have a perfect (male ) physique, which I attribute to cycling and stopping at all red lights as the law requires.
