We saw the Olympic women's semi final in Cov, France and Canada, it was a really good game.

Not seen much women's footy, but I did go to an international last weekend.

Quite a lot to play for - a place at the World Cup next year - but from what I saw the OP's pretty accurate.

It was a cracking night out by the way. Bike park right next to the stadium, tickets for 6 squids and the biggest crowd for a women's match ever in NL - 13000.

The match was drawn so still all to play for in the return leg on Thursday in Verona.

Saying that, the Netherlands probably represent Europe's best chance of winning the tournament. The Italian side, though good, are mostly the wrong side of 30.

Very noticeable how young the Dutch side is. They looked the better side on the whole, but lacked at a bit of firepower and seemed intent on playing the ball into the net. The Italians have a couple of excellent players, but are defensively dubious and have a goalkeeper intent on creating panic at every opportunity.

The standard of goalkeeping in general is pretty poor, which I've never been able to understand. Beyond size, there's really no reason for it.

Tough call between the three, but I think that her effort demonstrates the greatest level of skill. I suspect that the (lack of) quality of the opposition will have an effect on the decision though.
