wondering if i should commute tomorrow

I have been commuting since May when I changed jobs from 25 miles away which would have been an impossible commute (for me) to one 8 miles away - I love it, though at first I did think a bit like you. I do have a couple of very busy roads but don't look for a reason to drive, I actually hate it when I have a genuine reason to drive, the weather doesn't normally stop me, so as a relative new comer I would just say make sure you have a well maintained bike, helmet lights and a florescent jacket and do it

You have to look confident and be reasonably assertive out there. The most important factor in your safety is your road positioning - it should be easy for drivers to see you and be able to drive appropriately around you.

In spite of the headlines, cycling is a relatively safe pursuit - and one to be enjoyed.

I sometimes feel those very same nerves when I read of a cyclist's death (particularly if it is close to home), but I remind myself that it's irrational. After all, hearing of a motorist's death doesn't make me nervous about driving.

I do but that's generally after work, where I have been concentrating all day and know I have to keep concentrating on the cycle ride home,so im a bit nervous.Sometimes.Generally because im tired and feel vulnerable. When I get out there I don't think it is ever as bad as I expect it to be.

I'd say I'm the same.

I had a bit of it tonight - but as you say, as soon as you're out there, it's fine. As with many things, the anticipation is far worse than the reality.

Don't want to ponder on the what if's because if you do, you will never leave the house. I find cycling safer than just walking across the road and at the end of the day life is a challenge anyway.......

I must admit that I consider my cycle commuting as just part of my daily routine, its just something I do, but having said that I've brought a car recently and I've started driving in when it's wet and I've found I miss the bike on the days I drive.
