Very small beer, I know, but I've just been making some doors fit properly. Is there a more satisfying experience than using a good quality woodworking plane? I'd like to try it if there is.

Even better if you use a wood plane on the right end of the door to make it fit.

My excuse was I was young.

Sniffing the wood afterwards. Beautiful, and my old woodwork teacher claimed he could identify the timber type from the smell alone.

I love woodworking, sharp tools, the smell of cut wood. In my next life I'm going to be a furniture maker - unless those gits are right about coming back to pay for your sins, in which case I may be unable to hold the plane as a slug:angry:

If i was let loose on a door with a plane it would end up with a gap of about 18 inches at the bottom.
My bathroom door has had no lock for about 2 years as i can't work out how to put one in.

Why not just fix a sneck(what's the English word?) instead - few screws and you're done!

A catch?

Or do you mean a couple of shags? ;)

I've just discovered the joy of using a router with a cutter to make a tenon in some timber. The wood going into it has had it corners rounded over with another bit so the fit is perfect.

Mind you, it took a while to learn the lesson that you get what you pay for when buying router bits. The cheaper bits ripped the wood to bits. The expensive (Trend) bits slice through really cleanly.

Do you know, that is a brilliant idea ! Suits my half-arsed DIY style down to the ground.

Cheers !!!

Or if you spend ages taking a plane to the door when a simple hinge adjustment would have done. ;)

Or spend an hour or two fettling a 4 panel door to go in an odd shaped doorway and then realised it is the wrong way up compared to the other three on the landing

On the plus side, you only make that mistake once.;)
Too right - I wouldn't have minded so much but it was a lovely fit!! Fortunately the kids were out when I realised as there was a certain amount of profanity:blush:
