Try adding into the mix two young children on top of the rent, bills, council tax, car insurance and the many other little things. You end up with just enough to by a new inner tube (budget brand of course). Oh an that's on a moderate salary.

If I could have one month without paying tax I might just be able to clear the damn overdraft....
So I'll live in debt but as long as the government has enough to waste thats all ok.......

I know... I often set out on a day trip to the edge of my estate (with accompanying retinue of course and wearing appropriate apparel). Once there, I have my team set up powerful ocular equipment and often spend a little while searching to see if I can spot any poor people, those with sub-£500,000 cars for example. Imagine my joy when I am rewarded with such a sighting!

We (the retinue) then prepare for an evening of out door entertainment (if short notice, this will be merely a string quartet) and a modest banquet before retiring for the evening.

I do so enjoy safari.

Yes, picking through the detritus of the Norfolk Park Estate is a trial isn't it? Now the the skyscrapers have gone you can get a clear view of the muggers and be entertained by the melody of the police sirens.

Spot in I would love one month a year where we weren't taxed at least giving me a chance to chip away at the overdraft. 8 years ago I was made to walk from a job I was lucky as in a week I had 4 new job offers but the one I took up meant waiting 4 weeks before I started. So obviously I ended up having to use my overdraft to cover bills etc.

To this day I am still struggling to clear it. Slowly chipping away at it and then you get hit with an unexpected cost and bang back where you started.

Have given up stressing about money now just make sure I spend wisely and keep a bit back for emergencies.

Well said. The government make a big deal of obesity and the cost to the NHS. VAT free off all excersise equipment would be a great start.

I know that the government offer free gym membership to certain people that meet their requirements but it tends to be given to people who have reached the extremes.

Surely stopping the health issue at the start would benefit all involved.

Really good point...they could do away with cycle to work, and just cut the VAT.

The problem, as I understand it, is that they can't zero rate things that aren't already otherwise it's a breach of European law. They could, at best, 5% rate it. (My understanding comes from what I've read about the tampon tax lately so may not be perfect).

What are you lot moaning about, carry on working and paying your taxes, I am on a pension now so somebody has to pay it and maybe, just maybe, before I get really old, I may be able to afford the bike of my dreams while I can still push those pedals.

I got paid on Monday, my bank account is in the black, when my direct debits go out next Monday I'll be overdrawn again.

Pension what's that? I am 33 and by the time I am entitled to a state pension I reckon I will be pushing 80
