How many of you work late on a regular basis? And, if you do, how much extra time do you spend in "the office"?

Me

Usually 2-3 hours, occasionally longer.

Not sure 'working late' describes, more like 'working early' in my case, often starting 2 hours before the rest. I reckon between 6 & 10 hours extra a week, but then I do take it all back in flexi :-)

Not me, by and large.
I've often worked places where people did 50+ hour weeks regularly. They didn't seem to much useful, actual work though.

I stayed late today. It was only 20minutes and that was because it was still raining

Didnt do any work in those 20mins. I got changed, sat back and ate my banana

It seems that it's expected these days. I've had (many) interviews where the panel tell me that it's normal for people to work 09.00-19.00. It's also quite typical to see "must be able to work some evenings and weekends" in lots of job descriptions.

Wonder why?

I work late fairly often.

Usually seeing people, bookwork, typing quotes, delivering completed work or if needs be working to get stuff finished.

Being self employed though it somehow seems just how it has to be.

I'm not sure I would I would not be so dilligent if I were working for a company.

I often work late when in the 'office', but have a really flexible job in a demanding company. I travel a lot, 90% in Europe and so the concept of 'hours worked' becomes a bit alien. The flip-side is that if I ever need time for stuff, or leaving early etc. it's almost never refused. I rarely have to work weekends.

It doesn't happen much now, but if breakdowns dictated it, i'd work until finished although i always got paid , indeed used to get bonus's for it.
Ive seen me (does that make sense ?) start at 6am, finish at 7pm, just get home, knife and fork in hand...phone rings  ...breakdown. Back to work, replace an electric motor on a machine that took me till 3am the following morning. That is rare, but the responsibility comes with the job, so i'm ok with it.

An old friends just packed in her job. Office based, always working through lunch, then 'expected' to work an extra hour or two...unpaid. F'kem...i simply wouldnt do it. Outrageous.

I haven't worked late for a while. They have an overtime ban on where I am so I'm sure as hell not staying any longer than my contracted hours - I don't work for free!
