I feel it's only fair to balance melvil's thread with one celebrating the worst ever TV ideas.

I'll start with one for us older viewers - Triangle - an impossibly glamerous show set entirely aboard the Felixtowe to Gothenburg ferry. Journeys don't come more sexy than that - and all I remember is the grey, boring backdrop of the North Sea, with grey and boring charactors.

I'd have loved to be at the meeting where some "blue-sky thinker" thought a North sea ferry travelling between Felixtowe, Gothenburg, Amsterdam and back to Felixtowe would grip the public.

Come along now, I can't believe Kate O'Mara didn't cause you some stirring in the loins.

At the time I was about 14 - so I remember the trailers, which were all about Kate O'Mara topless.

Even at the time I remember watching the poor women freezing to death in the northern North Sea. And, more importantly as a 14 year old, it wasn't the sexiest thing around.

Who the hell sunbathes topless on a passenger ferry anyway - especially when it is clearly cloudy and freezing?

I nominate Eldorado!

I vaguely remember triangle - can't remember which night of the week it was on but it was the night my parents played badminton and we had a teenage babysitter who watched it. If we were good and quiet we were allowed to stay up and see it - our secret... otherwise we had to go to bed before hand. In reality I suspect bedtime was probably meant to be during the TV program.

Good call - I was torn between Eldorado and Triangle.

The weird thing about El dorado is that the idea - British ex-pats on the Spanish Costas - wasn't actually a bad concept for a soap. It was just apalllingly badly written / acted etc

I went for triangle in the end, because of the idea of a long running soap based on a North Sea ferry. It was like a prolonged, unfunny comest sketch.

El Dorado, with a modicum of acting talent and scriptwriting, could have appealed. A lot of people in the UK have holiday'd or live on the Costas. Unfortunately the show was just crap.

wasnt the wierd thing about el dorado, that they'd 'pulled it round' and got viewers... then they canned it..

i think triangle might have worked, if they hadnt' tried to make it the love boat...

I think you're right from memory - El Dorado was gaining a few extra viewers, but the BBC saw it as the new Eastenders - which it never was going to be - and overhyped it and overscheduled it (It was on 3 times a week at first)

Sorry - the triangle was never going to work.

Kate O'Mara's breasts making a coy and fleeting appearance in episode 1 doesn't make it The Wire.

North Sea ferries are long, boring and often full of seasick people in my experience.

At least El Dorado had the potential for glamour (a sunny location familiar to a lot of the viewing public).

Triangle was just crap, and not familiar to the majority of the viewing public (has anyone taken the ferry trip in question?) I suspect a lot less than have been to the Spanish Costas.

El Dorado changed the production team, and alhough the ratings improved a bit - they were still crap.

A show based on Spanish expats is actually quite a good one.

El Dorado wasn't that show.

Still not as bad as triangle IMHO

I'm torn between Eastenders, Take the High Road (blimey how did I recall that one! Kind of a Scottish Emmerdale) or Holby City.

High Road without a shadow of a doubt, the other 2 didn't/don't even come close.

There was sort of a running joke that said that if any of the characters ever tried to commit suicide by jumping off the pier, then they would land on a jetski.
It was filmed in Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond, and quite frankly, all the jetskis and motorboats are nothing but a blight.

'Come and enjoy the tranquil scenery!' ....MMMMMMMMEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMEEEEHHHHHHHMEEEEEHHHHHFFFFFFFFFFWWWWWOOOOOOOSSSSSHHHHHHHMMMMMMEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMEEEEEHHHHMMMMEEEEEHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I'd outlaw the lot if I could.
