Howdo, I'm Jay aka KuroSan, a 50+ year old London based artist returning to cycling after just over a decade due to health reasons. Before that time I was almost exclusively cycle only along with a few years of using motorbikes to get to work etc. Started out with BMX, went onto road and track and ended up on MTB after the road stuff kinda ruined my knees!
A 10 year break from cycling has pretty much ruined any sort of fitness I used to have, so I'm almost starting from scratch and having to take things way easier than I used to! I'm also a big fan of doing my own repairs/customisation and the bike I'm using to get me back on the road started out as a cheap £85 hardtail project bike that I rebuilt and repainted over the winter. I have a 2nd full sus frame that I also bought cheap and will be spending this winter repainting and building for next year.
I have some physical limitations from a few decades of falling off a lot and they present themselves in a really awkward way, my hip injury means walking anywhere get painful real fast, but cycling is fine, yet I also have my knees, right shoulder and right wrist injuries that prevent me from riding too hard, so although I will still hit some dirt from time to time, I will for the most part be sticking to the road and hopefully doing some touring further down the line.
When not doing bike stuff, I spend most of my time airbrushing canvases or scale models, mostly gunpla or stuff I design and 3D print myself. I've also been a 3D modeller for a while and am working on a scifi coffee table style art book, as well as designing 3d prints that I share on another site. I'm also a bit of a gamer and spend probably far too much time during my rehabilitation getting myself addicted to Elite Dangerous, Fallout 4 and Farming Sim!
So that's me, not an expert but also not a complete newb. I'll get to posting a couple of threads of bike projects soon!
