if i wore a snug fitting jumper OVER my windproof jacket ? jacket flaps about and acts like a wind break in this weather

Can't see why not, that's seems to me how windstopper fabric works ie a windproof membrane sandwiched between fleece layers.

Try it and see.

Worth a try but if it rains, it'll act like a sponge, not to mention the extra heat.
A snug waterproof or a cheap cycling softshell might be a better ploy. If Aldi have any soft shells left in your size, you could do worse.

I see a lot of motor-bikers wear hoodies over their leathers, I've always assumed its to keep them a bit warmer, but thinking about it at 30+mph there's going to be so much air passing through it isn't going to do anything about warmth, a bit different on a bike though.
As others have said if it rains it could end up being a bit soggy!

Do you have a cycle jersey that could go over the top, or even a t-shirt? not so warm as a jumper and less soaky-uppy.

one of my best ever buys was a windstopper vest. Works a treat and you can wear whatever you like over the top of it. Other than that, you can get windstopper golf jumpers that work well as a heavyweight cycling top and are decently shower proof too.

Eat more mince pies until the jacket becomes nice and snug.

:thanks:

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I prefer base layers under a long sleeve roubaix jersey and a gilet, i dont like windprrofs unless i can help it as i just boil in the bag.
Last week i was using a ss jersey with arm warmers as a base layer under the fleecy l/s jerseys that aldi sold along with a decathlon gilet and TBH it was about right for me ,when it was a frost i did swap the gilet for a windproof but i do tend to ride at (for me) a fast pace and im lugging 2 panniers on a 11kg+ bike .
