I like this idea. But would it be legal to carry a bike on a motorbike in the UK?

I'd be surprised if it was specifically illegal but possibly covered by more generic and open to interpretation 'unsafe load' regs.

I would be interested in the options though and have considered it myself. I've thought more along the lines of a cargo sidecar kind of construction though.

Back in the dim and distant I remember a couple of people turning up to the start of a race with the bike fixed to a makeshift rack on the back of a motorcycle, one of those a scooter.

I once got a lift home from a clubmate who had a rack for two bikes on the back of his Francis Barnett sidecar outfit. I had to ride pillion because the floor on the chair had given way. We were both still in our racing kit and one of my socks was covered in oil from the gearbox.

Happy days!

Tie a bit of dirty red rag to the back and be on your way...

I believe the modern custom as a tatty and soiled fluorescent gilet, at least 30 years old.

Construction and Use regs might be the sticking point, you'd probably need an extra rear light/numberplate mounted at the very rear, given the litigious times we live in it looks like a liability - I am sure the insurance company wouldn't be too happy as you'd have to declare it as a modification - my guess is they would refuse to insure it.
