Today, I launched a new edition of my Bike Doctor app that works on iPad, iPhone and Android and now I'm ready for the next app project.

I wanted to ask whether a London Bike shop app would be useful.

Basically, I worked on one a while back but development has stopped. I want to bring it back to life.

The app would be free, you'd be able to rate the bike shops you know and we would list bike shops, cycle cafes and bike rental places.

I guess most people already have a favourite bike shop they regularly use but many might not realise there's a bike shop around the corner. Or, perhaps they are out cycling one day and need to get to the nearest bike shop.

Would you use this app? What kind of features would you like to see?

Nope, would not use an app such as this.... what would stop the bike shop from ranking itself, its not a consistent or reliable system.

I guess a bike shop could 5 star itself and I'm sure many do on Google etc but then other users would leave a ranking so it would balance out.

If i was doing some touring and need to get something fixed i don't have the tools for, i would probably find it useful.
If i lived in london (or any big city) and was a newbie to cycling i would find it useful.

But i think you answered your own question for me. "I guess most people already have a favourite bike shop"

Nice guy who runs it, just up the road. knows a shed load about all types of bikes.

I think this would be a useful app and would probably download it (if I was in London). If for nothing else piece of mind when out on longer rides. Would be good for out of London as well.

Would be good if it could list what sort of shop they are/what they specialise in. Just so you know if your out on your £6k road bike and need a quick fix your not going to end up at a toy shop. A list of services would be good as well and maybe a basic price list.

Good luck with it

Phones capable of running such an app, also have the capability to surf the internet, i.e. you can access Google to get the same information and more! Google has a much bigger user base (i.e. everyone!) so ratings will come from a larger demographic and there will simply be much more information available than an app can collate.

I wouldn't use it, i would simply use a search engine to find a bike shop whcih would also have the advantage of working worldwide straight off the bat.

i'd only use it if it worked without a wifi or any internet connection...

Personally I couldn't use it as I have a windows phone, which comes with a very good "where's my nearest" as part of the OS. Even so, the whole ratings thing is open to massaging as 'likes' seem to be collected rather than earned these days and bear little relation to the quality of service provided.
