The centre of all things N.Soul in U.K is only 8 miles away from me but wouldn't dream of going to a gathering.
Incidentally, my old window cleaner who is big into that scene told me that in it's heyday, drugs were rife in the clubs that played it, which surprised me.

eeek - those sell for around £ 10,000 - he would have to had stolen abouot 40 to buy anywhere decent.

Not so much 'drugs' as such but stimulants predominantly from squaddies who were introduced to them while in the military. Dexys, as I recall were the big sellers but you could see the divs on the make who were knocking out Pro-plus tablets as 'speed'! I've been told.
