I predict it will cascade down the groupsets and in 2020 we will be using electronic shfting on our good bikes. IMO, the only reason I will not fit it to my bike is the price tag. But, given time and mass production, this 'little' problem will be resolved.

+1

If one Tour rider wins a stage using something like this, they will all want one, next thing every club rider that fancies him self will want one, then the price will start to drop...

Well when STi came out in late 80's, I think - it was well out of reach for the most basic of bikes/users: look it it now ! Sora,Tiagra etc...

I don't understand the niceties of racing, but presumably you aren't allowed to use stored energy for part of the bike propulsion system. Would they have to pedal like mad for the first 100 m at the start to get enough charge to make the first gear change?
The weight of the dynamo needs to be added to the system to make a fair comparison.

I don't like 7900 kit..sorry, it's not pretty enough........electronic or not....... if/big if/ever etc..... Super Record has it at the moment...... and it works.....(which was the issue when I got my Dura Ace stuff many moons ago....DA did it, Record didn't...)

Actually, I am impressed! That collection of gadgetry can actually make your bike fly! (Check out the "Cycle computer - flight deck").

Sorry, this seems to be a step too far. I suspect that the development department sat down one quiet Monday and said;

'Let's see if we can make an electronic gear system.'

By Friday they'd spent so much that the marketing department had heard about it. So here we are....
