Went for my first really hilly ride last night in North Wales . .. Well it felt really hilly to me

Covered about 12miles, but with all the hills felt more like 20 ! !

Will have to try and do this route once a week, as I can see it will quickly improve my fitness levels and strengthen the old legs (if it doesn't kill me first of course  )

I have ridden alot more hills this year and they do make a big difference, especially the cat 4 climbs I use.
As often stated, they do not get easier you just ride up them faster.

Depends on how cold it is. With low enough temperatures, descents can get pretty tough. By the way, I'd love to check out Wales by bicycle, I'm really feeling envious .

South Wales is a great place to ride as well as the north. A long way to come though from Oz.

Yea they do. I have one on my Friday morning ride, it's nothing great but it is a climb, I set a p.b. this morning bar the lights, its 130ft in 0.8 of a mile and no chance of warming up first. Though to be far there is a flat section in the middle, but it has 5.6% 6.8% a 9.1% sections all be it very short sections.

Also a P.B. on this

Well with having rather tired legs, and lots of other commitments; I only managed a short ride over the weekend .. (Saturday morning)

But at least it served to get the legs moving again after the hills of Thursday evening..^_^ . .

Only problem with this ride is that it doesn't matter which way round you do the loop, the wind is ALWAYS in your face as you cycle along the River Dee (well it always feels like it is ! ! )

My nemesis is currently a hill known as saltburn burn and another called hob hill. Neither are long in distance but both get my heart pumping and me panting like a dog. I feel amazing as soon as my heart rate is back to normal after getting upt he hills as I used to get off my bike and walk them but now up I go.
