Anyone any good at trouble shooting these things, my server (win7 running MC) saw it once and asked to set it up, didn't work. Since hasn't mentioned it again and I've tried pinging the xbox from the server but no joy, also can't ping it from my laptop, but can ping the server.

Xbox has xboxlive working and has done updates so its internet connection works

apparently its not an xbox endorsed router so doesn't work for media sharing, instant set up hard wired. Debating options now as to where to put it in the house and how to network it. Atm its in my office hardwired for gaming and movies

That's a bummer. We've got a bog standard Netgear router and it's fine - so fine in fact, the main PC is now in a cupboard and mainly serves as the 'film store' !! Also use my parent's SKY id to get Sky Movies and sports (with their permission - oh and Microsoft suggested it).

If you cba to run wires then your can use a power line carrier to bridge them together.

One point.

Our Xbox has lost the main PC a couple of times as Media Sharing got turned off on the main PC - got a stupid coded error message, no idea what it meant, - opened Media Player on the PC, "your media isn't shared", clicked and sorted in a jiffy.
