I got one on release day and it's been great for when friends visit before heading out for the night or staying in and having a laugh. The wife will use it for fitness hopefully when she gets her prezzie (game)!

We're tending to use outs on Fridays and weekends when the house isn't so hectic with various clubs etc (Mon to Thurs). Really impressed with it.

Got a few 'proper' games (i.e. controller ones) for the kids (me) for Christmas - Fifa 2011, World Rally, another racing game but with 'power ups' so non-serious, and Sonic racing game (like Mario Kart).

Also have Halo Reach for me, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

We've got an older TV without HDMI, so bought the Advanced Scart cable with RGB output, and it's made the screen, especially tiny text, much more readable.

Got kinect for the weins Christmas, unboxed it and had a laugh with it, played Dance central, kinect adventures, kinect sports and kinectimals. All the games seem to do exactly what they say on the box. Its really good fun kids will love it.

Hell i can even see myself playing it at weekends.

<br />Microsoft has just released additional 'free' party games for the Kinect Sports - get it via the downloads page/>

We bought a Kinect box plus the sports game and there is a "free" game in the box. Should arrive with Santa in a couple of days. Does your post mean there are games I can download to the Xbox?

BTW I haven't used a games console in perhaps ten years, might have been a PS1.

Yes you can download additional packages and sometimes free games as well. Either search on the PC/laptop by logging into your live account, or do it from the Xbox. If you need to buy a game or expansion pack, you can get 'points' cards from many supermarkets or Amazon, and then purchase them with the points.

These new consoles have moved on massively. The Xbox is also great for streaming video to the TV - i.e. download a movie (ahem) on the PC/laptop and pop it in a shared directory, and the Xbox can access it and play it - it will prompt you for a media update, but then will play all divx etc movies without messing about with wires from the PC to TV.

I've just downloaded Dorritos game - now't to do with Dorritos but it's a simple platformer in the style of Total Wipeout - the kids love playing it as my avatar, and getting knocked over by the flying hammers !!!

There is also Xbox Live Arcade, which lets you buy old arcade games (pacman etc) - down side is they are a bit pricey for what you get, although you can 'try' a game - but only once. Would be good if these were very cheap.

The minis have been doing Kinect sports today - and had a pretty big workout; good for burning all that excess energy off. Boxing, hurdles, and bowls seemed to be going down well, from my spot in the armchair... ;)

PaulSB - how is your son managing with it - I assume he's absolutely fine with it, as it's pretty 'natural' controls ?

Tom is doing OK. The basic level of adventure, tenpin bowling (which he's good at in real time), and table tennis. The football is proving more complicated as there is more to take on board but he'll get there, he just needs time to repeat and learn the movements. Thank you for asking.

Thinking about setting this up as the NYE game. We have about ten friends who should all know better coming round, think it could be a hoot. I haven't played on a console for 10 -12 years, could never really get the hang of the kids Playstation etc, but this Kinect is very clever.

I have just come across one issue - Tom was just shouting me from upstairs - when you want to go back to standard x-box it appears necessary to resync the controls and I'm not sure how he will deal with this. It's OK when he is at home but as Tom is at college and away most of the time I'm not sure if he'll be able to do this on his own. Am I right about the resyncing?

Not needed to re-sync anything here.... - so you might need to be in the room to see what happens - I've been keeping out of the 'picture with my two, but in same room, to 'fix' any issues......... (i.e. a big hand......) ..... might be the 'person' being out of Kinect range, not had a problem with our two wireless controllers, and took one off line tonight to charge the AA's....... signed in perfect after....

It's great to hear your son is having fun with it !

We have friends round on NYE, so the 'Party' element of the 'games' will be started - i.e. split in 2 or more teams and have a mad 2x2 x team dash on the games..........
