Bought a few shirts earlier and while browsing noticed one shop selling the above size.

Surely a contradiction in terms!!

Not a good look I would imagine!

I find that it depends on neck and shoulder size. I've shrunk down from a 18" to a 16" shirt. The collar is now loose on the 16, however the shoulders and arms on a 15.5 are too small.

I've got a mate who must be a freak of nature, his collar size is 17.5, waist 30". Even slim fit shirts look daft on him....

Of course, if it's Italian sizing, then a XXXL is actually a UK XXXS... and made for someone of under five foot in height, a 32" chest and 24" waist. And no hips at all.

Actually there is a very good point to them. I am a big guy, with a 36 inch waist, a 46 inch chest and a 17.5 to 18 inch collar depending who is sizing the shirt.

From about size 15.5 collar upwards you can't normally get "slimfit" shirts. If you actually measure one of my 17.5 collar shirts you'll find it has a waist capacity of about 48 inches, and a chest size nearer 55 inches.

That means that in order to get a shirt to fit my bull neck I have to have acres of flapping material bunched up round my waist. Tailoring is the only answer, but even then, a standard uniform shirt cannot be darted or reseamed too far because it throws the pockets out of line, and the shoulder yoke ends up halfway down my arms.

one pocket, on the left, no button or flap, is acceptable, otherwise I've got nowhere handy for my fags and lighter. Any other combination is just a step towards double pockets, with flaps, buttons and pen clips:ohmy:

Reread Greedo old boy, I said UNIFORM SHIRTS, as in I don't really get a choice how many f*cking pockets I get on them! ;)

And yes, I too am a shirt snob. I prefer Double Two to Churchill, but try telling our procurement dept that.

+1

I am not exactly skinny with a 36/38 waist and a 46/48 chest but with a 17.5 - 18 inch shirt I have masses of spare material wafting around the wast and have to tuck half the shirt in, but it then goes all creased and does not sit right.

Mr Campfire lost lots of weight after a heart attack. He's 6'4" & used to take XXL because most items for XL were too short in the body. He now sometimes struggles to find anything to fit because XL are a little large around chest and shoulders but flapping around the waist. They must think people are a funny shape.

For working, certainly in this weather, you need something long so you don't get a gap when you're lying on the ground fettling something. If you go to those tall men shops, everything is horrendously expensive.

Wigsie. Shotguns, cycling, v-shaped fatboy measurements identical to mine, are you actually me in a parallel Kentish universe?:biggrin:

Don't tell anyone, but it you fold the shirt down the seams from the ribcage downwards and tuck the spare material into your underpants, it sits much better. If you get caught, don't tell anyone I told you........the fashion police are already up in arms about my pockets......;)
