After a few months off the bike due to lack of Mojo, went out for a gentle 20 miler this afternoon and feel much better for it. I'm officially back on the bike.
Bring-on the 2010 season!

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Get in! when's number two? If that's not too personal a question.

Congrats. I came down with a cold (man 'flu) on the 22nd and the rattling in my chest isn't sounding too promising at the moment. I still want to go and ride, though.

The wife is not sympathetic, though, as she reckons my commute with the thermometer at -5 on the 22nd is what laid me out all over Christmas.

I'm enjoying being off the bike. Seven days now. Going for 10 before I get dragged out somewhere.

Good man. A break is a good thing sometimes. I don't intend to get back on my road bike anytime soon, maybe the mtn bike. Enjoying running at the moment, it's a nice change.

Sorry for the hijack FF but I've been thinking along these lines recently.
I find it a struggle to get out and actually run though. There's always an excuse - I think I'll wait till the ice has gone before thinking too hard.

+1 - Not through choice though. Roads here a disgrace due to some local council dispute.

:cold: -15 during the nite, -11 when I started work at 5am, rising to -6.5 by one(finish time), doesn't really help either.

I think you know when you want to get out again, it washes over you like a wave. In the meantime, have another mince-pie and enjoy the rest.

Stop moaning you wimp!

It is difficult to be motivated. Last week, when the snow and ice put paid to cycle travel, I was reading books like billy-o when making train journeys. The attraction of reading while travelling is strong!
However...
Now come on boys and girls - once around the block.

Running 3 miles, is pretty much the same (ish) time as cycling 10 (give or take 10 minutes). I find preparation for running quicker than for cycling and of course for longer rides, going out for a run takes less time and still gives you a good workout.

Whether cycling or running, my trick is not to think beyond getting ready for it, especially if you know you don't feel like going. Just get your kit on and leave the decision until then. Once you're kitted up, you'll invariably go.

I agree with you 100% - But I'm actually driving on the same route I'd cycle - the lack of salt is my only real concern. Or I would be out there, all layered up and everything. -

as well as the 6-8" of snow that just will not go away. Wish I could cycle as office carpark is a nightmare, they can not get anyone to clear it so it is just turning into a frozen mess.

And the hail that has just started now

I got all kitted out this morning ready for a long commute, and was really looking forward to it having been thwarted recently by floods and Christmas, only to get out the door to freezing RAIN. I went back in, collected rain gear. That took about 5 minutes, and by the time I got out the door again it'd stopped. Grrrr... Not wishing to be beaten, I jumped on my bike, cycled merrily along only to find my planned route covered an inch thick in compacted snow and black ice. I wibbled about half a km before giving up and turning back. And it's a good thing I did... because my route into work was iced up in loads of places, and I barely got there on time going the short route in, let alone the long. Never mind... mtn bike night ride tomorrow to make up for it!
