My version of Gaelic is Inner Hebridean and I'm pretty glad that Alba exists if only to keep it ticking over in my mind.

They use as generic a version as they can for most stuff, not much else they can do really and it's better than nothing.

Much the same as what TV stations use for English.
Compare street talk to TV news. Then compare that to TV news from 80 years ago. Languages evolve/devolve.
