Ok, saw a knee specialist today - great guy. I'll keep it simple.... I thought I had illiotibial band syndrome, but infact due to dodgy genetics my knees are "social" and point inwards slightly, and this has caused the kneecap to be displaced.

Anybody have experience of this and have excersises which are likely to help? I have been refered to physio....but that has a long waiting list. Soon to have an MRI scan

If you already have a diagnosis why are they sending you for an MRI? That seems a pointless waste of time and effort. What was the exact diagnosis they said? What are your problems/symptoms etc?

Basically my knees point slighty inwards, which means the kneecaps are dragged outwards, so the knees are not aligned. The MRI scan is to see if there is excessive damage to the cartilage as I have had this problem for a while.

Problems and symptoms are exactly the same as ITBS...sore under the patella and around the edges, gets alot worse with excersize etc etc. The guy who did the diagnosis is an excellent knee surgeon so he knows what he is on about.

It's a bit risky, surely, asking us for exercises when you are already seeing a knee specialist?

Your long waiting list is presumably for the hospital physio. Why not just go and see a suitable private physio? I can see mine at a couple of days' notice. Ok, it's £32 a go, but if all you need is to be told what exercises to do, by someone who has seen your knee and is qualified to tell you, I would have thought that was £32 well spent.

I have been working on this today, but the waiting list could be up to a month.

I did ask for people with experience/knowledge on this to offer suggestion on excersises, and I would of course ensure I understand what the excersise accomplished before carrying it out.

Go to your GP and ask them to refer you to a podiatrist to assess your feet. It may seem a bit odd but if your feet are "out of sync" then it can excacerbate any other problems you have.

Just because he is a surgeon doesn't mean it is a correct diagnosis. I work as a Podiatrist and get referrals from orthopeadics and they are very rarely right.

Already got orthotics for prevent over pronation. This guy has a great reputation, and everything he said made sense, and you can visible see my knees point inwards compared with other people I compare them with - I'm confident of a correct diagnosis.
