I'd definitely be looking for a decent 2nd hand. Plenty to choose from depending on what kind of cycling you are looking to do. At £200 buying new will get you kit that probably won't last. There are some good exceptions though. The Decathlon range seems to be well regarded for the money.

Welcome to the forums! :hello:

I'd definitely advise looking around second hand. You'll get a lot better spec for your money in that price range. Things you want to look for are forks with as many adjustments as possible (eg. lockout, rebound/preload adjustment) to give you greater flexibility to optimize the suspension for different terrain.

Disc brakes are ideal, hydraulics obviously better than cable actuated, but cable is fine. If you're buying second hand, try before you buy. Nothing worse than buying a bike second hand, and finding it doesn't fit!

When buying second hand, grab the top of each wheel and try wobbling it from side to side. If there's play, the likely hood is that you will need new bearings, or worst case scenario a new hub. Similarly with the bottom bracket, grab the top of the crank and try wobbling it from side to side. - If there's play, you may need a new bottom bracket.

What sort of riding are you going to be doing ?
Unless your going off road you can get away with rigid fork if your just riding on cycle paths.
Second hands bikes can offer very good bargians but if your new to cycling then ther eare many pitfalls you need to know about when checking a bike over and unless you are sure or have someone who can check the bike over then it might be easier to go for a new bike .
Decathlon have a very good range of bikes that are generally well praised by members here , if i had the cash i would be buying my next bike from there .
This looks like it might fit the bill...
