A good point well made Monseur Pig but it should be on a bike, whether you use the bike or not is a different matter but without the context of a frame and rims it's a meaningless box of bits.

I don't agree. I have a cutaway RB300 tonearm, a rare item produced as display pieces for Rega dealers. It doesn't work obviously, but the missing metal lets you see the full detail of the design. So it is with these bike parts. Great designers take care over the parts you can't see.

It is this innate understanding that compels those of us who recognise mechanical genius not to pull the sticky tape off boxes of bike parts!

It also compels some of us to use the beautifully made and functioning kit rather than creating a museum.

Absolutely :0) The better choice. The point is that these are not one off works of art. I have three RB300 arms in the house, I only need one to play records on.

The duplication of mass-produced items often leads us to take them for granted, but we shouldn't. Great work is great work, irrespective of whether it's designed to be duplicated. Instead we should see it as an opportunity. A chance to both use and preserve these items, enjoy them without guilt :0)

It brings to mind that evil murdering landlord twunt who built a mausoleum in the basement of his abomination of a mansion for himself and his collection of priceless art. Van der Something.

Very strange. It's not as if he's got them on the mantlepiece, they're in the back of a cupboard. Pointless. Who in the apocalyptic future is going to delve away in the back of a cupboard to find that.

Who is the true art lover. The man who needs only the art or the man who needs others to know he has it?

Your bedroom. Do you have pictures on the wall? Who sees them? If they were not there would it effect anyone else? They are there for you, they enrich your life and isn't that enough?

I could happily explain why the RB300 tonearm is so special but what's the point? You probably wouldn't get it. That doesn't matter though. I get it and I'm happy enough with that :0)

Those pictures begat the phrase "bike porn".

Building it onto a bike? It's like having a priceless bottle of wine, do you drink it?

yeah but my pictures are on the wall not in the back of a cupboard so at least one person gets pleasure out of it. Me! His stuff is hidden even from himself!
