Yoann Offredo assaulted on training ride

I've just spotted Offredo posted on FB that he was assaulted with a blade and a basebell bat whilst out on a training ride today with 2 friends - broken ribs, broken nose and serious bruising over his body

He posted some pics but I decided against sharing them, looks nasty.

I don't know where he was riding other than it was somewhere in France.

I wonder if they were trying to steal his bike?
