Registration for this ride is now open. More info and sign up details here:- https://www.thefridays.cc/rides/york-to-hull-2025
It's worth noting the date (later in the year than usual) so please bring appropriate clothing. One rider turned back last year because of the cold !

I'm planning on riding back to York to, hopefully, make it a 100 mile round trip and you're welcome to join me on that.
The one caveat is, if I'm soaked/cold/shattered I'll be taking the Hull-York train with a "walk-up" ticket. It's a Northern Rail service so no bike booking is either possible or necessary.

Please ask away if you have any questions.

Email (corrected for errors !) that I sent to the group yesterday:-

"Thanks for the responses and the kind words of support.

In the circumstances I've decided not to ride this coming Friday.
It's not the rain that's the issue but the forecast winds
They are going to be very strong and, as was pointed out to me, the Humber Bridge may close if they're too high.
That would leave us well and truly screwed.
It's also worth pointing out that the wind direction is from the SW. The route takes us S until we get to Goole so it will be a headwind.
After Goole we head W then, finally, NE.

If there's enough interest I'll look at doing the ride next weekend, 10 October. Again, this will be subject to the weather forecast and there will need to be a minimum of 3 other people (ie 4 of us in total).
This may well enable you to rebook your train tickets and at least recoup some of the investment.

I'm not sure of the status of Horkstow Bridge. The FB page says that it's been closed for repair work although it is possible, apparently, to "sneak" around when there is no work being done.
The FB posts also seem to be quite old so, perhaps, the work is finished and the bridge is open again.
If any of you have any local knowledge, this will be useful.

Unlike other FNRttCs, I will make the intended route available as a gpx to anyone interested.
The only caveat being that it is an "intended" route and may be subject to change on the night. I mention this because I intend to operate a strict "no chase down" rule so, if you go ahead and the group takes another route on the night, we'll shout but, if you don't hear us, you're on your own.

Finally, I'll try to respond individually to those who's topic I haven't covered here.
Thanks again for the support."

Only option under the circumstances. I will be in town that weekend, but I think it would be a bit off to change the besties' plans at such short notice. Ho hum. Horkstow Bridge might be a bit of an adventure judging by this post

Just a quick update.
The ride is going ahead this Friday, 10 October.
Thanks to the riders who have committed to it and apologies to those of you who aren't able to make it. Cancelling last week's ride was, IMO, the correct thing to do in light of the weather forecast.
We're not going to use Horkstow Bridge this time; we're going to use the main road instead.
The en route stop will be at the McDonalds on the outskirts of Scunthorpe and, I've found since last year, that the end point, The Admiral of the Humber, opens at 07.00 so we should be able to head straight there without last year's detour. Sorry that it's a Wetherspoons....
I'm still planning to ride back towards York to get the train back to MCR. Intended route is along the TPT.
As ever, I'm open to any questions.
