It's a really sloppy piece of reporting by the York Press. You can't tell whether he is claiming under the HMRC scheme (which we are all entitled to do) or under the Parliamentary scheme. Nor can you tell whether he has claimed for cycling at work, which is allowed, or to work, which isn't. I suspect that the YP's journalist has lifted it from one of the national rags and not bothered to do any work beyond re-wording it.I agree with his stance but I also think that MPs shouldn't be claiming back the cost of commuting to work, unless they have to travel from their constituency into Greater London.
The cost of travelling during work though is another matter.

Personally I'm more offended by the YP inviting readers to shovel money into their coffers by ringing a premium voting number on their website.
I get a tax break of 6 cents per kilometre on my commute. I'm not getting rich, but it's the thought that counts.
