I met a couple today while riding in Whalley Lancs. They told me they were doing a coast to coast from Blackpool to Scarborough. They were from "down south" and asked me what Yorkshire was like. I told them i didn't know as i'd never been there. They seemed worried after that!

Hmmmm. Now, I'm an incomer, and quite like the place, but its a Curate's egg...... Good in parts. It's so varied its not fair to compare it with cities as a tourist destination. You can't crow about any county that contains Grassington without referencing Ackworth or parts of Hull, Malham and Masham without thinking of Dewsbury, Ripon versus Aggbrigg. Visit Chickenly and ...well, I guess you get my meaning. I see a lot of the uglier sides of the county and can't square away the discrepancies between the good and the bad enough to delight in the county as a whole.

We have just been to the Brilliant Whitby Folk Festival for the weekend, well worth a visit if you are about in Yorkshire in August, pubs full of music streets full of strange looking people.
