Norwich is not Amsterdam, where cyclists reign over cars, Cambridge, or even London for that matter.

Unlike Norwich, these cities have excellent public transport and their people have different needs.

London caters for rail commuters/shoppers and tourists,Cambridge for car-less university students and Amsterdam with its extensive trams network criss-crossing its attractions has a cosmopolitan transient mix of young cyclists living and working there.

Moreover, Amsterdam is famous for its culture of socialising/drinking, legal use of smoking cannabis and sightseeing, so cars really aren’t necessary.

To be fair they probably smoke far more dope in Norwich.

Cannabis use isn't legal in Amsterdam, its just that the laws, with certain cavaets, are deliberately not enforced.

Tombland has NOTHING to do with graves, it's an old English word for market.

Sir John Falstaff used to own the building on left.

It's so random, it's a thick person thinking about what's commonly associated with Amsterdam and using it as an argument against cycling.

"No point encouraging cycling in Norwich because cannabis".

"What about encouraging cycling in Norwich and use Copenhagen as an example?"

"We don't have a mermaid statue, dumbass!"

Christ, has she ever left Norwich? She's certainly never been to Amsterdam. Cambridge has excellent public transport? What the hell?

I think given all the bastard speed cameras around, insurance costs (at least for young people) and road related taxes such as fuel duty, then motorists would be better off on bicycle. I used to love motorcycle touring, but I have come to the conclusion that motoring is a mugs game. Also without motorists, whos the government gonna bum?

I, as a Norwich cyclist, think that the more cycle friendly streets and the keeping cars out of the main centre area, is great. The city has a lot of park and rides as sensible prices, a good inner and outer ring road so no need to drive though if passing through. It's all good.
