Isn't fuel more expensive in France though?

Nope. Nearly 10p a litre cheaper. But it's the principal anyway, they stand up for themselves.

Apparently, according to this survey, it's 10 cents per litre dearer in France so perhaps they should have manned the barricades earlier

France was bloody pricey this year compared to the last two, but then with the Euro so strong to the GBP it isnt suprising.

Damned right on the wine though, can still drink yourself silly on local wines on the cheap

What you might have also considered interesting is that the local mayor can do these sorts of things! They have quite amazing (by UK standards) control over their communes/regions. Pretty much anything you want to do, you have to ask the mayor first.

Of course, there are rules. There is still the Napolionic Code, and it's tomes keep many a lawyer busy, but the interpretation of those rules is, shall we say, variable!

On the petrol thing - last week, petrol in France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland was more expensive than it is here!!!!
