the second I step out of the house on my way to Edinburgh cycles (12 mile round trip) to pick up some new handlebars its going to lash it down.

The predicted heavy rain forcast for the last few days hasn't arrived, but this morning its dark out there and looks like the sky is about to unload any minute.

Now do I gear up for a wet ride or just normal light gear and hope I can peddle fast

Normal light gear I'd say , it might not even rain. If you gear up for a wet ride you will probably end up feeling like a limp dish cloth anyway.
