i spent a few weeks working freelance in the Lebanon many moons ago , and the roads there had potholes that could easily swallow Sherpa vans as we found out on many an occasion .

It's weird how the tarmac has been ripped up and dumped like a roll of old carpet

I saw that on Pendle Hill about 8 years ago - long strips of tarmac from road repairs had been lifted and carried down the road like someone's hall carpet. Quite amazing.

More recently in very cold weather I've seen several hundred feet of strip repair that has lifted by two inches out of the road, presumably because the material that was replaced on top of the new utility was wet and has frozen and expanded.

It did involve some walking, carrying and skating in road shoes.
