Appropriately, my alma mater ("nourishing mother") had the motto reginae erunt nutrices tuae ("Queens will be your nurse-maids" - Isaiah 49:23). And before we were matriculated (from matrix - womb) an emeritus professor pointed out all of this imagery. And added that the place we were going to be matriculated was supposedly designed by Christopher Wren to look just a little bit like some the womb we would eventually be ejected from.

(His sister is a poet who wrote the screenplay for Merchant-Ivory Howard's End, and managed to get him a bit-part. Yes, I did start my adult life with a hell of a lot of advantages, and I'm sure it's been useful even if the specific college tie has never helped.)

I went to Oxford too - Speedwell Infants and St Nicholas Primary.

Actually it was Buckingham Secondary School, then the Army, then Bath and Swindon College of Health Studies[/QUOTE]

Chandos School?

Did 2 years at Bristol Vet School, decided I didn't want to be a vet after all, switched to a biochemistry degree at Warwick, which is actually in Coventry not Warwick. About 30 years ago I was sat in the library at Warwick, overlooking the Business School, watching lots of press doing laps of the car park in what looked to me like white dodgem cars. It was the launch of the C5.

I have been banned from more Universities than I went to

I dinnae think they'd recognise me anymore tho. The bloke at St Andrews Uni chuckled when I told him I was banned for life when I was there last year for a seminar.

I don't think we had a school motto or school song, but I reckon we had a school t-shirt which got them both covered

I've been sent glossy magazines about the wonderful aspects of my place of higher education for the last forty years, usually urging me to send them money because it is such a beacon of academic excellence, and I owe it to them. I spent three years on a degree course, and another two as a post graduate. They offer me free dinners every once in a while. I'm not tempted. Getting on any train at Kings Cross still fills me with a sense of gloom.
