For different reasons:

Macarthur Park by Richard Harris...totally OTT, awful voice, mad lyrics but I love it.

Mr Blue Sky by ELO...it just makes me smile, no matter how down I feel.

Out of Time, the Chris Farlowe version...great Jagger/Richards song and Farlowe's unusual voice, and reminds me of some great parties.

Ask me next week and it could be a different list.

How do you define "pop song" for this purpose?

I'm defining it as... not my favourite song nor my favourite artist but a big catchy chart hit that may be really crap compared to stuff i really like, but i like it anyway.
It could also be... not rock, not soul, not funk, not jazz or grunge or whatever, but POP... the likes of Pete Waterman might have produced.

I'll have to have a think.

Because it's absolutely feckin' brilliant... that's why!

Fantastic song but it's a rock song, but it's a popular one so is it a rock song or a pop song, where are the boundaries?
Is any popular song a pop song ?
Sade and Your Love Is King is a fine song but is it pop?

If a song can go on Pick of the Pops with Alan Freeman or Top of the Pops then it's a poptastic pop song. Pop isn't a genre, there are too many of those, it's a catch-all term.

It's all very confusing isn't it, this is Wikipedia's take on it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_music

absolutely!

Everyone disagrees with me but i do argue that back in the early 80's when heavy metal bands were regularly troubling the top 40, heavy metal was pop music. Trad sounding rock'n'roll bands were also in the charts, that was also pop. We can call it what we want after the event but at the time...
