Freezing meals is always a great way to go when camping. We tend to do a mix of hookup or not - hookup if staying for 3-5 days. A good airbed is a must if doing it often - we have Thermarest Mondo Kings - expensive but good thermal insulation and comfy for a side sleeper like me.

Facilities very. From really posh showers and loos (Portmeirion) to basically a tin hut with a shower and tiny gas boiler.

When bike packing we stayed at a farm with only a few pitches, but the shower/loo block had a 'room' for each plot, so you never shared a loo with those not in your party. Another site, the loo/showers were basically a shed. So long as they are clean, it's OK.

Just back from an Aug bank hol annual trip with friends which is now in its seventh year.
We finally used the tarp(hi gear now on offer in go outdoors for £45!) for a communal area.
Teifi meadows was the site in Lampeter, the ablutions were basic and not very clean so a thumbs down but the night sky and campfire slightly made up for it.

Oof that red car, friends or the next pitch over? That seems very close, too close for me!

Next pitch. Same on other side. Problem is our tent is wide not deep but we had two huge tents either side. Lovely site, nice facilities but too crazy on a bank holiday. Was nice during mornings but come 7pm to 11pm, very noisy and kids tearing round on legal ebikes. Pitches round edge of field so loads of room in front, but quite close side to side. Main reason for this site is it's 20 min walk to Bennlech village, and my sister was staying locally. Much quieter sites this week though and we'll be pretty much alone from next week as schools back in Wales.

We don't normally camp on bank holidays but it's the start of two weeks around Wales.

Chucked it down last night so hoping the tent can dry off before it's packed. We're in the van tonight, then tent again from Wednesday.

Oof! Sounds like hell lol! I never camp on BH weekends anymore. I was in North Berwick at the start of the Scottish summer holidays this year, actually ended up making a complaint to the site about rules (specifically no unsupervised children playing around tents) and got a refund on a nights stay :okay:

Packing the car this morning for a trip to South Lakes, adult only site lol. Have 2 bike rides planned, and a visit to the Wainwright anniversary exhibition. Plans may change though as weather is looking a bit squiffy.

Chucked it down overnight. Up early, tent unloaded and dry, just about to take down and the heavens opened. Bugger. Threw the tent in the van wet where it will stay until Weds. Sleeping in the van tonight at Portmeirion. 30th Anniversary tonight so food booked. Although a wasp has just tried to ruin it. Had a can of beer, open, went for shower, came back, and only at the end did I find there was a wasp in it and got a sting on the roof of my mouth. Fortunately have antihistamine, paracetamol and a fresh beer to sort it before the meal.

The forecast up here isn't looking great but still going. It'll be a wet set up, but dry 1st evening so BBQ and campfire is still on. We've had the last 4 trips all dry so we're due a wet trip now, fairs fair!

I can report the Decathlon awnings do stand up to weather. Someone a few plots down has one and it's been fine in the strong winds. Ours is in the bag awaiting use at Whitesands for a night.
Used ours a lot...got a bit of a tear on a joint but still a bargain for the money.
Stood up to quite strong winds...helps as it's usually tied to the car.Now putting it up in strong winds...that's a different matter 🤣
