Is that part of some sea defences ? I've done a fair bit of installing that sort of stuff / fendering / rubbing strips for vessels in local harbour's.

The wood used is normally a very hard wood called Purpleheart or Greenheart. Horrifically hard / dense. And costly ! Perhaps that's especially why the pic appealed. Really great shot either way. You clearly have an eye..........

It is part of the sea defence on the north Kent coast. There is a massive stretch of flat open sand leading on to protecting marshland and I think the barriers are there to slow the incoming tides in stormy weather and give the habitat a fighting chance.
