I am frequently surprised making online purchases how much the "Pay over <n> Instalments" is pushed or offered. Even for stuff I'd consider consumable or short term and relatively low cost items. Never used it but it concerns me that less prudent people use the offer to buy without fully considering the cost nor to reflect on the need.

Strangely, the better off we became the more we questioned 'need'.

These days, our purchases (beyond staples) tend to be very vfm driven. We are happy to spend, and are not cheapskates, but if the unwritten rules of vfm aren't met we are happy to walk away from a potential purchase.

Short breaks are currently on our poor vfm list, especially AirBnB's which have become quite spendy for a week away in the UK.
