Your First Bike

Visited my mum today and she gave me this photo of me and my first bike - a Raleigh Astronaut

Anyone else have a photo of their first bike?

My first bike was a Raleigh (?) Tricycle, here I am with Gregory Hiscocks somewhere in Wiltshire

Roughly 60 years ago in Bolton - when I was living round the corner from @Domus (something we only discovered a few weeks ago).

I can't remember much about that bike, other than doing a Bolton/Southport/Bolton ride in the summer of '67.

It wasn't my first bike but it's the earliest photo I have of one of my bikes.

The trike was my first bike, now being ridden by my brother. I'm on the two wheeler, a Hercules.

My first bike of my own (as opposed to something scavenged off my sisters) was a Raleigh Wayfarer. I still see them about parked up here and there. I don't have any photos of it.

Raleigh Wayfarer was my ‘go to work bike’ in the 70s never a problem that bike three speed Sturmei Archer and hub dynamo too

Would like to have shown you my next bike, but don't have any photos. For my 10th birthday, my dad, in his loving way, gave me a Hill Special, fixed road bike!

Taught me how to ride fixed and I still ride a fixed on one of my bikes, 60+ years later.

Aged about 14 or 15 I bought a tatty old bike for a fiver or thereabouts and it had a fixed sprocket one side of the wheel. (I'm pretty sure it was a 5 speed freewheel one side and fixed the other, which seems a bit weird but that's what I remember). Anyway I didn't have a clue what a fixed gear was or why it should exist. None of my mates had seen such a thing. I set it up and used it to ride in to school a few times. I hated it.

It took me nearly 50 years to get around to buying another one. I'm quite enjoying it, but memories of that first one trying to kill me on my way to school still linger.

Mine had a bottle dynamo

Done away with them in 1966 but my 1959 German back pedal brake, single speed came with a dynamo and front/rear lights as standard

Around 60 years ago... looks like dad found it in a skip! Ahead of my time with a single speed
