I have a tall hedge to maintain and so I went for a Stihl with hedge cutter, pole cutter and extension attachments. You can also get a strimmer attachment and I can highly recommended it as an excellent bit of kit.
Brambles, fork and pull them out by the roots.
Not as long as you think, and its a permanent solution.Come on, will take ages, and not as much fun as a machine !!!! Argh.....

I used a pin of a buckrack to pull them out of the ground and the fork to roll them. 100 yards cleared in just over an hour. Clear to this day, five years since it was done.
Go manual with a slasher then.I like my chopping machine !!!
