I would like to try and start requestion sponsership form some cycling related companies to help fund my cycling. What kind of thing do I need to tell them, apart from obviously my personal bests, and the events I enter so on and so forst. Also how do I write it to give myself as big a chance as possible, but without sounding big headed and 'cocky'. I know people will think there is no point in doing it, because they will just say no, but I feel that there is no harm in trying.

First of all decide what you want, a couple of inner tubes per season or a multi million pound global deal?

I'm thinking just subsidised prices on things that will have the companies name on: for example, a skinsuit/oversocks/helmet/training clothing for now. As that is all I really need for a quick increase in speed at the moment, and if they are happy with me, I would start asking for discounts on components. Does that sound reasonabal?

Pro Bike Kit to start with, see what they say as they specialise in quite a lot of Time Trial shizzle, and I will then try my LBS as they are a good TT shop aswell, but I think my chances would be higher with PBK as they will have a biger turnover form being a bigger company?

The bigger the company the more requests for sponsorship they receive. And the less likely they will think that having some oik pedal around a muddy field wearing their branding is a good marketing opportunity.

get all your press you may have had to date in local newspapers, bike magazines, club magazines etc, your competion entries both past and future, photos of you taking part in sportives and races. What your future plans are and what you are hoping to achieve. Remember it's not what they can do for you rather then what you can do for them. They will want their name seen.
Speak to ilovebikes, he got some support for his trip from his bike shop.
Good luck.
