I can suggest an improvement.... instead of using that unpleasantly busy Shard Bridge over the river Wyre, twice, cycle up or down the coast all the way between Clevelys and Fleetwood then use the Wyre ferry to cross over to Knott End. There's a decent cafe there on the ferry slipway. If the wind is in the NW, do the coast bit in a southerly direction and if it's in the SW, do the coast in a northerly direction; it's a real joy to cruise along the sea front being helped by the breeze. From Knott End to Pilling you can stay on the sea wall although it's officially footpath so a bit cheeky. Lots of people cycle it though.

Here are the Wyre ferry timetables: http://www.wyre.gov.uk/downloads/download/60/ferry_timetables

Downstream from Shard Bridge you can take a small lane to Skippool marina and Yacht club, with some very atmospheric derelict yachts and if you're feeling rugged, follow the coast trail around to the Wyre Estuary Country Park where there is another very good cafe with great cakes and good for keeping an eye on your bikes. The trail is OK on road tyres, though it can be a little muddy.
