I have tried to donate loads of times but no clots available in the vicinity

Then , about 6 months ago - a slot was there and I booked it

when along but apparently my 'blood levels' were too low

had to go to GP and get a blood test - which resulted in taking some tables for a few months

then nothing - no idea if the tablets have worked or not

will have to ring the GP and see if it is worth trying again

You don’t want clots if giving blood :okay:

Just go along, they’ll test you there, levels can vary day to day. I believe the NHSBT threshold for donation is higher than what is considered the bottom of ‘normal’
presumably you took iron tablets?

Yes, for men it’s 135 and anemia is 130 or below.

Apparently I am still banned due to failing the blood test last time

GP says I am fine but Blood people want me to wait a while longer

i’m managing to squeeze my next donation in on 15 Dec … before I go to Kenya after Christmas and won’t be able to donate for 4 months I believe

Did you know….

Most people are able to give blood, but only 1 in 25 people actually do. You can donate blood if you:

  • are fit and healthy
  • weigh at least 50kg (7st 12lb)
  • are 17-66 years old (or 70 if you've given blood before)
  • are over 70 and have given blood in the last 2 years

and pass the tests to make sure you are not anaemic or taking some types of medication

the full list - and a quick quiz to see if you are OK is here

Not quite. It stops at age 60. I was reliably informed of that when I asked why they stopped inviting me after my 60th.
Major annoyance for me - I can’t see the reasoning for that.

Incorrect. I’m 64 and still donating. That quote above is directly from the NHS site.
