Indeed. I grew up a stone throw away from the beach and I'm 5'7. But as others say it appears that Wales and Scotland are excluded from this bizarre thread.

I've got a theory - maybe they were knee deep in sinking sand? I nearly lost many a welly through sand of a questionable consistency in my childhood .
