cycling whilst physically tired ( is it beneficial)

I was a bit off it last evening and really didn't want to go out but a mate texted, so I took a short trip to his, it wasn't fast (its only 3 miles and usually try to put a bit of effort in) and I really didn't fancy the 100ft climb back up to our house.
I have a trip this lunch time to Wakefield not far 20 mile round trip or so, anyway since I have been up since 3am I don't really fancy it but its her dad needing help so needs must. I might not be fast and may or may not enjoy the ride itself but long term it won't do me any harm and I think (but would need to check) will give me my greatest weekly distance this year about 120 miles or so (though it might not be my greatest rolling 7 day distance), I am currently riding 5-6 days a week with an average of 18-20 miles a day usually split over at least two separate rides, the thing is no matter how tired I am these distances are no real problem.
