Because there was traffic passing on his right and he didn't want to risk going round the guy. I can't see anything he did wrong and my over-riding thought is that I hope the psycho on the BMX hasn't got a driving licence and never gets one.

Cycling was only ever a fraternity for the small minority of us who enjoy it as a sport or serious leisure activity. For the vast majority of bike riders it is just something that's better than walking.
I think as more and more people are cycling (I myself am new to cycling...) it's probably an inevitability that a fairly sizeable minority of people will be knobs...it reflects the general public!

It's never been a fraternity, any more than motorists are a fraternity, and it appears that both of these do actually include females.

Never been a fraternity as far as I recall. Back in the 70's most club racers would push you off as soon as look at you, if they thought you might beat them.

I can't see much provocation for that kick. Perhaps he could have spotted the BMX rider on his inside earlier and given him a bit more room before the coach, but the BMX rider never got a bike length ahead. The braking looks like cautious riding - not wanting to pass the cyclist ahead due to the traffic in the other lane and then hanging back, giving himself a bit of braking distance.
