There's a hilarious account of this in one of the James Herriot books. The Artificial Vagina (AV) gets filled up with warm water prior to the bull entering the picture, so to speak, only the farmer uses water straight from the kettle. The bull is none too impressed at getting slightly scalded, and things go downhill from there...
