I'm still using "old School" OS maps for longer rides "into the unknown", unlike GPS type maps, there's no "You Are Here" indicator on an OS map, so you can get lost, but usually not for long if you look at the map.

I like the laminated plastic type OS maps, you can plot a route with removable pen and they fit into my back jersey pocket, but you might need more than one map, which is very inconvenient.

£9.75 laminated or £5.85 for paper at the moment at dash4it.

I probably would never have bought a Garmin had it not been for the night I got lost when returning from a day of sightseeing, it was only thanks to a couple of helpful locals and the German police that I eventually got back to my tent.

I've only had a handful of minor route fails - trying to pick up a cycle path after a road section or through a town.

No big deal, but I do get impatient and a bit cross.

Some members of my Sunday morning group get quite anxious if there's any indication we don't know exactly where we are.
