Well said (or well written!)

I also like Prince's "nothing compares to you". Even though he wrote it and did the original, I think most people regard Sinead's version as the first.

The Gutter Brothers used to do a good version of Prince's "Kiss". Complete with washboard and tea chest bass.
Slade's version of Darling Be Home Soon is also great.

"The Nice" doing Bernstein's "America". Hell, it's even got excerpts from Dvořák's "New World Symphony" thrown in.
