I can imagine one in York where I used to live with regards the "pedestrianized" zones and a sign with Lord Kitchener on it and "Mike Usherwood says no".

Slow down duck and slow down luv would be short and not require a very large sign.

I saw a sign in Millhouses Park (Sheffield) many years ago that read "Dogs must be lead", to which someone had added "Cats must be zinc".

Every sign in Liverpool would say:

"What yooou lookin' at?'

I'm not though

I like the zinc one though, I think that's worthy of the sorts of stories in eats, shoots and leaves.

There was a sign in Sheffield:

'Wait here while the train passes'

Except in Sheffield 'while' means 'until' as in 'Im working 9 while 5'.

It caused no end of bother.
That's true.

And apparently so is this; when pedestrian crossings were being introduced in Sheffield, instructions on how to use them were published, which read "Do not cross while the green man is flashing", and some people waited until the green man flashed before starting to cross the road.
