I've recently been reading "Traffic", by Tom Vanderbilt. Ignore the Grauniad review comment on the cover stating that it "will appeal to fans of Top Gear....." as what Vanderbilt is trying to do is to look at the psychobabble of all road users, with a bias towards motorised users. Some of the strategies reviewed are interesting, but ultimately the research (doen by others than Vanderbilt, in effect what he is doing is a prolonged literature review) often shows that the small scale research programmes could never be translated into real life.
Bought it on a BOGOFF in Borders, so it isn't too expensive either if you find it to be expensive toilet paper bound together in a book. I'm quite enjoying it though - but then Andrex is a regular read for me in the bathroom
