Arrived a the Vienna airport last night, set off from the airport hotel and followed the bike signs towards Vienna, then peeled off on another route across the canals and rivers to make our way to EV 6 and headed down towards Hainburg on almost exclusively traffic free paths. Approximately 35.00 miles.

I’ve edited the title because we are on our way to Budapest.

Short trip today to Bratislava, a nats nadger over 10 miles, check in to hotel and have a walk around the city. lovely weather, a bit of a wind, but not enough to vex.

Excellent cycling tracks, very quiet and lovely countryside.

This track ends on the border, and the train, just comes back.

Now in that Hungary, 52 miles today, 40 of them along the Danube, not a car or traffic light in sight, not even for ready money.

Just about to leave Bratislava.

The only bit of unpaved track, approximately 2 miles out of 52.

Györ to Komáron 26 miles, all but 2 miles on traffic free segregated dedicated cycle paths, through woods and villages along highways, broadly following the Danube on the Hungarian side, when we arrived at Komáron we rode over the river again back in to Slovakia.

Very envious Carl, looks beautiful- how are you managing with the Brompton gearing, is it reasonable flat there?

It’s flatter than a witch’s tit, so far, 600 ft of climbing today over 25 miles, yesterday over 50 miles we seemed to be going downhill all the way with wind behind. I did have bit of gear change problem yesterday, wouldn’t go into 2, but I sorted it when I got to the hotel, I think it was cable stretch, and the toggle chain needed tweaking, it was perfect today.

Very envious. We did the Passau - Vienna bit a good few years ago, and this looks just as good.

How flat is that?

From Komárno to Esztergom today, approximately 38.00 miles, the last 10 of which were irksome, gravely tracks, slabs of uneven concrete and quite busy roads, and nothing open to get something to eat. BUT, it’s still stunning scenery, and so peaceful.

IMG_3320.jpeg

Follow the signs.
IMG_3322.jpeg

Some kind of speed boat race
IMG_3326.jpeg

Nice and flat…so far.
IMG_3329.jpeg

Finally managed to find somewhere to eat.
IMG_3331.jpeg

So peaceful.

IMG_3333.jpeg

Along the route there are these cycle stations where they have tools and pumps to use.
IMG_3334.jpeg

We kept passing these Germans along the route. They can’t resist a sun-bed that lot.

Left Esztergom today, for the 53.45 mile ride to Budapest. First five miles along traffic free parks and woodlands, to the Ferry at Szob, which inevitably was not running . So onto Visegrád along very busy roads with really aggressive drivers. At 16 miles we eventually found the ferry, it’s not well sign posted, but at least it was running.

This is a pontoon really tugged about by a little boat.

It’s a national holiday here today, everyone and their dog is out on bikes of all shapes and sizes, I have never seen so many bikes outside of a sportive.
